EVEIL - “Innovating pedagogical approaches for the early development of visually impaired children involving their parents”

Dear Sir or Madame,

EVEIL is an international project organized by six European partners and financed by the COMENIUS program of the European Union.

The EVEIL project helps young children with visually impairment get a better access to reading and writing, to books, newspapers and other sources of information. Improving the literacy of visually impaired children will help them  take part in society more effectively and with greater ease, and fully enjoy culture as well as become independent and responsible European citizens.

The project aims at creating a network of professionals in the field of pre-reading activities for blind and partially sighted children.

EVEIL invites you as specialists working in this field to get involved in this network.

On the EVEIL-website you can find current information about the work of the project. The site is in English, French, German, Romanian, Czech and Slovak.

In the Board section of the website you can discuss with the EVEIL partners and with each other activities in pre-reading.

The EVEIL carries work in the following three main fields:

  1. Pre-reading Activities for Preschool Children

In the first phase of the project, EVEIL partners are compiling a list of current pre-reading and conceptualization activities in their respective countries. On the EVEIL website you will soon find an overview of early intervention systems and pre-reading practice in the partner countries, as well as information on individual projects.

  1. Workshops with Children

Following the example of a method developed by FAF in France, which will be described in detail, project partners will develop conceptualization and pre-reading courses for blind and partially sighted preschool children, using a children’s book.

  1. Seminars and Help for Parents

The project aims at developing helpful materials for parents of blind and partially sighted children. There will be a survey to determine in which ways parents practice conceptualization and pre-reading with their children, and which problems they face when doing this.

During seminars, parents will be given practical advice for pre-reading and conceptualization exercises with their children. Apart from that, there will be a brochure with information on the topic.
