The story contains that the pirate has to follow certain ways and to find doors. Behind the doors there are the next advises for the next way.

Use and Evaluation of the Material

The programe was first tested with 10 children.

There were 10 other blind and other 10 sighted children tested who not took part in the programme.

The children were tested before and after the programme.

  workbook_walk with carpet 2

The evaluation of the programme showed significant:

-  The children who not took part in the programme had no growth of there pre-reading skills.

-  The children who took part had a significant growth, those how started at a low level as well as those who started at a high level.

-  The children got more and longer concentration.

-  They learned very much in the fields of tactile strategies: follow tactile lines with their tose, independent feeling with both hands, following lines in the position of reading braille with both hands and more than one finger per hand, compairing point symbols simultanly with fingers of different hands, verbalizing the content of noticed thing by feeling.

-  They built up an awareness of braille scripture, of using books and of reading.

-  Some children learned to recognize some single words or letters and to read them.

So the programme is a very well evaluated efective system to improve the pre-reading skills of blind children.
